Harper Government Takes Action to Improve Community Infrastructure

Minister Goodyear Launches the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program in Southern Ontario

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 15, 2015) - Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario)

FedDev Ontario Minister Gary Goodyear today announced the launch of the new Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program in southern Ontario. Minister Goodyear was accompanied by Kitchener-Waterloo area Members of Parliament Peter Braid, Harold Albrecht and Stephen Woodworth.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the $150-million national program dedicated to celebrating Canada's history, heritage, values and future by reinvesting in community infrastructure across the country. The program will create a lasting legacy as Canada prepares to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.

As of today, FedDev Ontario is accepting applications for funding to rehabilitate, renovate and expand existing public infrastructure for communities in southern Ontario. Local and Aboriginal governments, public sector bodies delivering municipal-type infrastructure services, and incorporated not-for-profit organizations are invited to apply for funding for projects that will be supported on a cost-shared basis.   • The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program provides $150 million over two years to be delivered by regional development agencies across the country. It is part of the federal government's coordinated approach to celebrating Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.
  • Applications for projects in southern Ontario must be submitted to FedDev Ontario by 5:00 p.m. EDT on June 9, 2015.
  • In southern Ontario, priority may be given to projects that require a federal contribution of 33.3 percent of total eligible project costs, projects with smaller scope and projects that can be completed by June 30, 2017. Detailed information is available at www.FedDevOntario.gc.ca/CIP150.
