Advisory: Tsleil-Waututh Nation to Release Landmark Independent Assessment of Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline Project

NORTH VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - May 25, 2015) - TWN will publicly release the results of their Assessment of the Kinder Morgan proposal in a press conference on Tuesday, May 26th at 10:30am PDT.

When: Tuesday May 26, 2015 at 10:30 AM PDT.

Who: Tsleil-Waututh Nation leadership and community.

Why: The Assessment represents a milestone in First Nations decision-making on major resource projects in Canada. This comprehensive independent review – possibly the first of its kind in Canada – is an application of TWN's indigenous law and combines leading oil spill expertise with indigenous knowledge to review the impacts of the Kinder Morgan project.

Where: Whey-ah-Wichen (Cates Park) in North Vancouver, across the water from the Kinder Morgan Terminal. Excellent visuals. Interviews available.

More:

In the face of mounting dissatisfaction with and mistrust of the National Energy Board's review of the Kinder Morgan project, TWN's independent Assessment represents a thorough, holistic review that is grounded in indigenous law and backed up by over 1,200 pages of expert scientific and anthropological reports. The Assessment is a harbinger of things to come for Canadian resource companies as they must grapple with the implications of First Nations as a level of government in the wake of the landmark Tsilhqot'in Supreme Court decision.
