Celebrating Canada's 150th Anniversary With Community Infrastructure Upgrades

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 25, 2015) - Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation (Canada 150) is a key milestone in our nationhood. It is an opportunity for Canadians to connect with our history; celebrate our diversity; honour our heritage; reflect on Canada's achievements and build lasting legacies for the future. The overarching theme of Canada 150 is "Strong. Proud. Free." These three short words truly define and characterize our nation.

On the road to 2017, our Government has announced, as part of its Economic Action Plan 2015, signature initiatives and community-driven activities to help Canadians participate in Canada 150 celebrations. Canada 150 programming will aim to make the most of government investments and generate economic and social spin-offs for communities of all sizes across the country.

Given that infrastructure has served as the foundation on which Canadians have built this country, our Government has created a new $150-million dedicated infrastructure fund as part of the Canada 150 celebrations.

The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program provides an opportunity to give back to Canada by improving the infrastructure that connects Canadians and keeps them active.

The infrastructure program, delivered by the regional development agencies across Canada, supports the rehabilitation, renovation and expansion of existing public infrastructure for community use.

The program will help preserve and improve our treasured cultural and community locations across the country allowing Canadians and their families to enjoy moments of sport, recreation, leisure and contemplation for years to come.

FedDev Ontario is responsible for delivering $44.4 million over two years to projects in southern Ontario, as part of the national program.

Local and Aboriginal governments, public sector bodies delivering municipal-type infrastructure services and incorporated not-for-profit organizations with proposed projects in southern Ontario are encouraged to apply online for funding.

For detailed requirements, please refer to the guidelines at www.FedDevOntario.gc.ca/CIP150 or call 1-866-593-5505.

For Canada 150, let us all seize opportunities to deepen our connections to one another, while making our neighbourhoods, our communities and our country stronger.
