Dairy Farmers of Ontario Celebrates 50th Anniversary With Open Farms Days Across the Province

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 1, 2015) - In celebration of Dairy Farmers of Ontario's ("DFO") 50th Anniversary, farms across the province will participate in "Open Farms Day", a unique opportunity for the public to learn about Ontario's agricultural industry.

Open Farms Day is an event that will see 15 dairy farms open their doors to the public, providing fun and engaging ways to learn about life on a farm.

"Ontario dairy farmers are proud to produce high-quality reliable milk for Canadians. We are thrilled to welcome visitors to our farms to understand the first step in the journey from farm to table," said Ralph Dietrich, Dairy Farmers of Ontario Board Chair, and a Dairy Farmer from Mildmay, ON.

There will be 15 events across the province, most being held on June 27, 2015. Each of the farms will have their own events including farm tours, food sampling, kid's activities and much more.

"This event is so important because it truly highlights local foods and the importance of Ontario farm families: Perhaps most important, it brings people together for fun, education and delicious Ontario dairy products," said Dietrich.

DFO is celebrating 50 years since Dairy Farmers of Ontario's inception as the marketing body for Ontario's dairy producers.

"Any opportunity that raises public awareness of the significant contribution that the agriculture sector makes to the economy and to rural communities is something that we place as a priority. Open Farms Day achieves just that," said Laural Adams, Communications Manager, Dairy Farmers of Ontario.
