Media Advisory: OFL President Sid Ryan Available to Media After Presentation to Ontario's "Changing Workplaces Review"

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 16, 2015) - Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) President Sid Ryan will be available for questions from the media on Tuesday, June 16, immediately following his deposition to the Ontario Government's "Changing Workplaces Review."

For the nearly one million Ontarians earning at or around the minimum wage, who do precarious work and lack union representation, an improved and enforced Employment Standards Act could raise the floor for every worker, improve job security and provide dignity in their work. Meanwhile, overhauling Ontario's Labour Relations Act has the potential to extend union protection to more workers and provide a clear pathway out of poverty.

The Ontario Government's "Changing Workplaces Review" will kick-off consultations in Toronto on Tuesday and OFL President Sid Ryan will be presenting the priorities of Ontario's labour movement.

What: Media availability on labour's priorities for reform of the Labour Relations Act and the Employment Standards Act.

Where: Toronto Marriott, 525 Bay St, Toronto, ON M5G 2L2

When: OFL deputation begins at 11:05 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.

Interviews can be scheduled for any time before or after the deputation, which runs from 11:05 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.

"There can be little doubt that this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change Ontario's outmoded labour laws to lift employment standards for every worker and provide easier access to unionization and the protections it affords," said OFL President Sid Ryan.

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) represents 54 unions and one million workers in Ontario. For information, visit www.OFL.ca and follow the OFL on Facebook and Twitter: @OFLabour.
