Francophone Festival in Prince George Features Fun for the Whole Family

Member of Parliament Dick Harris announces support for Le Cercle des Canadiens Français de Prince George


PRINCE GEORGE, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - June 17, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada has provided $25,000 in funding to Le Cercle des Canadiens Français de Prince George (Le Cercle) through the Development of Official-Language Communities Program to support the 31st edition of the FRANCOFUN Winter Festival in 2016.

Dick Harris, Member of Parliament (Cariboo-Prince George), announced this support today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Quick Facts

-Le Cercle will present the FRANCOFUN Winter Festival from January 30 to February 6, 2016.

-Festival activities will take place at several sites throughout Prince George to maximize visibility and attract visitors. Live musical acts, workshops, performances in local schools, a sugar shack and an art exhibition will take place at next year's festival, which is expected to attract 5,000 participants.

-This 2015 FRANCOFUN Winter Festival coincided with 2015 Canada Winter Games hosted by Prince George.

-Le Cercle des Canadiens Français de Prince George, founded in 1960, brings Francophones and Francophiles together to promote the French language, as well as to celebrate French-Canadian culture and heritage.

-The Development of Official-Language Communities Program is designed to foster the vitality of Canada's French- and English-speaking minority communities and enable them to participate fully in all aspects of Canadian life.
