City of Charlotte Selected as a 2015 PTI Solutions Award Winner

Information Builders Customer Recognized for Data Quality Initiative to Tackle Address Deficiencies

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jun 17, 2015) - Information Builders, a leader in business intelligence (BI) and analytics, information integrity, and integration solutions, today announced that the Public Technology Institute (PTI) has named its customer, the City of Charlotte, a 2015 Solutions Award Winner in the "IT and Telecommunications" category. The award is in recognition of a project the City undertook in partnership with Information Builders to ensure accurate address information and enable city agencies to deliver more effective services to residents and businesses throughout the greater Charlotte area.

The 16th most populous city in the U.S., Charlotte has experienced rapid growth and expansion in recent years. The City lacked a centralized repository for managing physical and mailing address information; departments were using disparate processes and multiple address data sources, which created inconsistencies and anomalies in address records. For example, inaccurate address information occurred whenever a name was misspelled or a duplicate entry was created. Even when City staff members discovered these address anomalies, there was latency involved in resolving the data quality issues and updating the respective databases.

To address this challenge, the City of Charlotte embarked on an Enterprise Address Management Program that included business process engineering, governance, the technical implementation of a master data management (MDM) solution and a cost allocation plan for sustainability. With the help of Information Builders, the City built a solution that enabled them to carefully check address records, identify duplicates, standardize discrepancies, remediate exceptions and create a master database of "golden" address records. Unifying this information provided a consistent set of master records, so the City could improve accuracy throughout its information systems, and give customer service representatives a more complete and consistent view of city address data.

"Obtaining a unified view of address data has enabled the City of Charlotte to deliver more effective services while simultaneously freeing staff from manual data quality processes," said Gerald Cohen, president and CEO, Information Builders. "We congratulate them on this PTI Award recognition, and we look forward to working closely together to continue their data quality transformation."

For more than 30 years, the PTI Awards have recognized innovative public sector projects that solve real-world business challenges. The City of Charlotte, and other 2015 recipients, will receive their award during the PTI 2015 Local Government CIO Summit in Salt Lake City, October 11-13. To learn more, please visit pti.org
