Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover on the Launch of Celebrate Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 21, 2015) -

Celebrate Canada is a four-day celebration beginning with National Aboriginal Day (June 21), followed by Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day (June 24) and Canadian Multiculturalism Day (June 27), and ending on Canada Day (July 1).

A number of activities are taking place across the country. I invite everyone to come take part and discover the beauty that can be found in Aboriginal traditions, the unique role played by Francophones in our past and present, and the contributions of diverse cultural communities and groups. Finally, on July 1, let's come together to celebrate our national holiday.

Our country is the result of people's contributions and the significant moments that make us the proud Canadians we are today. In 2015, we are commemorating, the 200th birthday of Sir John A. Macdonald, the 50th anniversary of our national flag, the Year of Sport in Canada and the Franklin Expedition, among many other things.

With the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017 just two years away, Celebrate Canada is a wonderful opportunity to highlight our accomplishments, learn more about our history, and honour the men and women who shaped our country.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I encourage all Canadians to join me during these festivities and show their pride in everything that Canada represents: a strong, proud and free country.
