NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Jun 22, 2015) - Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2015 Wisdom of Crowds® Enterprise Planning Market Study. The report provides an in-depth analysis of enterprise planning software, including perceived importance, adoption trends, deployment options, and current and planned industry capabilities. Enterprise planning is defined as a system of software including strategic, operational and financial planning, used to prepare for the internal and external factors that affect an organization.
Although 90 percent of respondents indicate enterprise planning is at minimum "important," there is a mixed view of its overall merits. Adoption for enterprise planning software varies by industry, with manufacturing reporting the highest current adoption at 77 percent.
The finance function assigns the highest mean level of importance to planning and budgeting, with executive management and IT following closely and even more likely to consider financial planning as "critical." Finance also is the leading functional user of enterprise planning, followed by operations and sales.
The study also examines 18 enterprise planning initiatives, with annual financial budgets topping the list in importance, and rolling budgets, cash flow forecasting following. Enterprise planning initiatives vary noticeably by vertical industry, and many respondents indicated a planned increase in use of all six of the highest-prioritized initiatives.
According to the study, current industry capabilities fully address the most common end user feature requirements for strategic, financial, and operational planning. Organizations do not express an overwhelming preference among enterprise planning deployment options, but on-premise is the most popular overall.
