BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Jun 22, 2015) -  Fish & Richardson announced today that both its Patent Prosecution and Patent Litigation practices received a top Tier 1 national ranking from The Legal 500 guide to the most preeminent U.S. law firms. Fish also received top national rankings for its Patent Litigation/International Trade Commission (ITC) and Trademark and Copyright practices.

The Legal 500 praised Fish's Tier 1 Patent Prosecution practice where "attorneys work alongside the firm's renowned litigators to assist clients with patent strategies and patent re-examinations," and the firm's "strong reputation for handling high-profile patent prosecution and portfolio management as well as providing opinions and strategic advice." "It has broad coverage across the U.S. and internationally and is active across various sectors including IT, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and media." In particular, The Legal 500 recommended Richard Anderson, Jeffrey Barclay, Dr. Christopher Bowley, Charles Hieken, and Paul Pysher.

Fish's Tier 1 Patent Litigation practice, chaired by Ann Cathcart Chaplin, "has particular expertise in the medical devices and pharmaceuticals fields, having recently handled a number of complex Hatch-Waxman cases." The Legal 500 went on to note that the "firm also has solid high-tech expertise." Singled out were litigators Juanita Brooks, "top-notch" Katherine Lutton, Michael McKeon, and Frank Scherkenbach.

Fish was among an elite group of firms designated by The Legal 500 as "best equipped to handle ITC investigations," while Washington, D.C. principals Ruffin Cordell and Michael McKeon were two of only nine attorneys in the country named to the elite "Leading ITC Lawyers" list. The Legal 500 noted that, "the forum has seen an increase in multiple-respondent and competitor cases" and detailed Fish's "significant victory" for client LG and "other notable highlights." Christian Chu, also based in D.C., was commended.

Fish's Trademark and Copyright team "has extensive experience in federal and state court as well as TTAB proceedings and is especially known for its representations on the defendant side." Fish "is best known for representing technology companies in disputes with content owners, especially regarding fair use issues.... and regularly advises various clients on the protection of copyright works and infringement matters." Kristen McCallion, chair of the Copyright Group, David Hosp, John Johnson, Lisa Martens, and Mark Puzella were commended.

The Legal 500 conducts extensive research to analyze and assess the capabilities and strengths of law firms. The resulting rankings provide buyers of legal services with an objective analysis of the U.S. market. Research includes in-depth interviews with law firms, clients, and lawyers across the country. Inclusion in The Legal 500 is based solely on merit and the guides are widely regarded as offering the definitive judgment of law firm capabilities.
