Healthwise Launches Healthwise(R) Pregnancy Program to Improve Health Outcomes for Low-Risk Pregnant Women

BOISE, ID--(Marketwired - Jun 23, 2015) - Every mother-to-be wants a healthy baby, but many women aren't aware of the pros and cons of their options that help provide healthy pregnancies and newborns. And often the decision-making process doesn't take into account their personal goals for care or the costs associated with it. Today, Healthwise announced the release of the Healthwise® Pregnancy Program, an online campaign that gives women the information and support they need to make decisions that are right for them and their babies.

Although most pregnant women are healthy and low-risk, many end up getting care they don't need or want. According to the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 62 percent of C-sections have unclear or no medical reason. The Pregnancy Program provides an efficient way to reach low-risk pregnant women -- a group that is often out of range of high-touch programs. By delivering up to three timely health education messages each week, the Pregnancy Program uses a multimedia approach to help women understand their options and to enable them to make informed decisions with their provider and care team.

"Maternity costs are one of our top medical cost drivers, with huge variability nationally, including C-section rates in some markets approaching 50 percent," said the director of clinical programs at a Fortune 50 company currently implementing the Pregnancy Program. "While there is certainly no shortage of maternity content in the marketplace, we chose to work with Healthwise because of the quality of their content, supported by evidence-based guidelines, and their patient-centered approach to shared decision making."

Healthwise developed and designed the Pregnancy Program with extensive research gathered from focus groups, an online survey, user testing, and a review of national quality measures.

"For 40 years we've made it our mission to help people make better health decisions, and today we further that purpose with the launch of the Pregnancy Program," said Diana Stilwell, vice president of shared decision making solution strategy at Healthwise.

The Pregnancy Program is part of the Healthwise® Population Health Solution that lets health care organizations conveniently deliver health education directly to more of their population, on devices of their choice, encouraging engagement and participation.
