Avere Systems Enables Government Agencies to Be Cloud Ready Without Overhauling Existing Infrastructures

With Avere's FXT Edge Filers, U.S. Government Agencies Can Move Workloads Into AWS GovCloud With Ease

PITTSBURGH, PA--(Marketwired - Jun 23, 2015) - Avere Systems, a leading provider of enterprise storage for the hybrid cloud, today announced that its FXT Edge filers now support Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud, helping government agencies become compliant with the U.S. federal government's Cloud First policy without the need to overhaul their existing infrastructures. The addition of support for two new key features, Secure Token Service (STS) and the Signature Version 4 Signing Process for S3 access, allows government agencies to take full advantage of the benefits of cloud computing. Agencies are now able to seamlessly move data between on-premises NAS systems and the cloud with low latency, high performance and at a minimal cost while meeting stringent security standards.

AWS introduced GovCloud in 2011 as a response to the U.S. federal government's Cloud First policy, which mandates that agencies begin to move at least some of their services to the cloud. GovCloud is isolated from other AWS Regions so that governments can keep workloads in the cloud while meeting specialized regulatory and compliance requirements.

Avere has introduced support for two new features to assist government agencies with their transition to the cloud -- Secure Token Service (STS) and the Signature Version 4 Signing Process for S3 access. These features translate into enhanced security for organizations accessing their S3 data, ensuring that authentication credentials are periodically changed.

"With Avere and AWS GovCloud, government agencies can check the box of being cloud-enabled and can do so without overhauling their existing infrastructure," said Scott Jeschonek, Director of Product Management at Avere Systems. "Until now there hasn't been a technology that has offered a solution of this magnitude and ease for organizations needing to move data to AWS GovCloud. Avere makes it easy while offering a flexible, high-performance cloud file storage solution."

Earlier this year, Avere Systems announced support for Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2. To read more about how Avere brings the power of hybrid cloud storage to the U.S. government, please click here.
