E4 Computer Engineering and AppliedMicro Take X-Gene(R) Processor-Based ARKA Platforms to the Next Level

X-Gene Processors Coupled With Next Generation Technology From NVIDIA and Mellanox Enable New Levels of Performance and Power Efficiency

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 13, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq:AMCC), a global leader in computing and connectivity solutions, and E4 Computer Engineering, a leading supplier of customized solutions for high performance computing and enterprise data centers, today announced the newest generation of the ARKA RK003 platform based on AppliedMicro's X-Gene®, the industry's only production 64-bit ARM server processor.

The new ARKA RK003 platform combines the performance and power-efficiency of the X-Gene 64-bit ARM processor with an upgraded NVIDIA Tesla® K40 GPU compute engine and the high performance Mellanox® Technologies ConnectX®-3 FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand adapter.

"The new Tesla K40-based platform not only delivers higher performance, but also increased power efficiency which is a perfect complement to the low power X-Gene processor architecture," said Piero Altoè, vice president, research & innovation, E4 Computer Engineering. "The ARKA RK003 platform delivers leading-edge performance with innovative use of technologies that do not compromise total cost of ownership (TCO)."

"The ARKA RK003 is an excellent platform to deliver the benefits of X-Gene processors coupled with GPU accelerated compute in High Performance Computing environments," said John Williams, vice president of marketing at AppliedMicro. "The performance and power-efficiency of X-Gene processors combined with a robust ecosystem of Linux operating systems, libraries, compilers, and applications make it an excellent choice for cost-effective scale-out HPC computing deployments."

"The latest ARKA RK003 platform with the performance of FDR 56/Gb/s InfiniBand technology and the power efficiency of X-Gene ARM processors enables a leading solution for both high-performance computing and enterprise environments," said Gilad Shainer, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "This combination of best-in-class technologies ensures not only high performance, but maximized return-on-investment."

The new ARKA RK003 platform is available today and is currently on display at the annual ISC High Performance 2015 Conference taking place this week in Frankfurt, Germany. Show attendees can see the platform at both E4 Computer Engineering in booth no. 914 and AppliedMicro in booth no. 1431.
