MEDIA ADVISORY: Public town hall meeting to Keep Hydro Public

GUELPH, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 20, 2015) - The president of Ontario's largest union will participate in a public town hall meeting about the Liberal plan to sell off Hydro One, this Thursday in Guelph.

"Wherever this kind of hydro privatization has happened, it's driven up rates. That will hit everyone's pocketbook, and it will mean municipalities, schools and hospitals will be forced to cut front-line services to pay for rising hydro rates," said Fred Hahn, president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario. "Skyrocketing hydro rates are bad for our communities and bad for our economy."

Speakers at the public meeting, hosted by Keep Hydro Public, also include Asia Barclay from the University of Guelph Central Student Association, former Ontario Electricity Coalition organizer Paul Kahnert, and Guelph and Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination member Martha Inglis.
