Lockdown and Search at Stony Mountain Institution-Maximum Security Unit

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - July 20, 2015) - Correctional Service Canada

On July 20, 2015 at about 8:00 a.m, a lockdown was put in place in the maximum security unit at Stony Mountain Institution to allow staff to conduct a search of the unit following an inmate assault.

The search was ordered in the maximum security unit to ensure the safety and security of the Institution, its staff and inmates. Visits have been suspended until the search is completed. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is committed to preventing the entry of contraband into its institutions. Our efforts help to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.

In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will continue to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and take the appropriate measures.
