NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Jul 27, 2015) - Dresner Advisory Services today released the 2nd Annual Business Intelligence Competency Center Market Study. The report, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research, examines the goals, resources, success rates, and funding methods of the Business Intelligence Competency Center, a cross-functional group charged with defining, delivering, documenting, and promoting best-practice business intelligence (BI) solutions throughout the organization.

"We're excited by our second annual study of the BI market from the vantage of individuals attached to a variety roles in the BI Competency Center (BICC). This unique cross section of data from respondents across all geographies, functions, organization size, and industries provides a unique look at market dynamics and lends a rich analysis to the overall state of BI deployments -- from design and goals, through implementation to success rates," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services.

In 2015 the BICC reporting structure has shifted significantly toward finance and away from other functions such as IT or operations; IT and finance are now equally likely to have BICC oversight. In terms of roles most represented, business analysts are the most abundant resources within BICCs, followed by database programmers, application developers, project managers, and statisticians/data scientists. Analytics model development and business consulting are the most reported BICC activities.

The report dives into the current and planned BICC funding models, with BICC programs financed by a mix of capital expenditure, budgeted, and chargeback models as generally exist across IT. More than half of organizations view the BICC as a direct cost or cost of doing business, with fewer charging for incremental usage.

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market. To purchase a copy of the 2015 Business Intelligence Competency Center Market Study, visit
