PALMco Revives Commitment to Science Education by Funding Local Teachers' Projects Through DonorsChoose.org

PALMco's $25,000 Contribution Will Boost Donations Benefiting Environmental Science Projects in High Poverty Schools, Multiplying Impact

BROOKLYN, NY--(Marketwired - Aug 13, 2015) - PALMco, a family owned and operated energy supply company, announced today its third annual commitment to funding environmental science projects in partnership with DonorsChoose.org, a non-profit crowdfunding platform where teachers can request classroom resources. By partnering with the DonorsChoose.org "Double Your Impact" initiative, qualified projects in Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania will receive 50% of their funding by PALMco, until the $25,000 donation goal is reached.

"A strong education is fundamental to the development of our children and enrichment of the overall communities we serve," said Robert Palmese, President of PALMco. "How our activities impact the environment and the world we live in is increasingly significant to everyday life. We are grateful that DonorsChoose.org connects us with educators and facilitates informative and engaging ways to teach environmental science and the importance of energy efficiency to the next generation."

"This generosity from PALMco will help ensure that the most in-need classrooms are equipped with the resources they need to learn," said Kristina Joye Lyles, partnerships and business development team member at DonorsChoose.org. "We are thrilled to team up with PALMco to support environmental science projects for a third year in a row."

The "Double Your Impact" initiative collects individual donations for up to half of the total project cost, and PALMco's donation will fund the remaining half to complete the request. In order to maximize the impact, PALMco has selected to match donations to environmental science projects costing a total of up to $800 at underserved schools in the states in which PALMco serves. The two previous donations by PALMco to DonorsChoose.org have reached nearly 20,000 students by completing funding for 221 projects at underprivileged schools.

This partnership is a continued initiative of "PALMco Cares," a larger effort to give back to the communities in which PALMco operates. Launched in December 2013, PALMco Cares' inaugural campaign donates $1 per month for each participating gas and/or electric account to the American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO). Despite long surpassing the initial goal of $10,000, PALMco continues to offer the opportunity for customers to opt into donating.

About DonorsChoose.org
Founded in 2000, DonorsChoose.org makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. At this nonprofit website, teachers at half of all the public schools in America have created project requests, and more than 1.7 million people have donated $325 million to projects that inspire them. All told, over 14.5 million students -- most from low-income communities, and many in disaster-stricken areas -- have received books, art supplies, field trips, technology, and other resources that they need to learn.
