Public Service Announcement: Military Divers to Train in Mauricie

CFB VALCARTIER, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Aug. 21, 2015) - Residents of the RCM of Mékinac and anyone passing through the area may notice military personnel taking part in dive training in the municipality of Lac-aux-Sables from August 24 to 28, 2015.

About 20 members of 5 Combat Engineer Regiment will camp at Lac-aux-Sables and practise diving in the lake during the day and at night. About ten wheeled military vehicles will also be visible at times near the training locations.

No weapons or ammunition will be used for this exercise. However, in the event of an emergency, pyrotechnics such as thunderflashes or flares may be used.

The purpose of this exercise is to train combat divers and dive supervisors. Using an unfamiliar location far from Valcartier adds to the complexity of their training.

At the end of the training, the soldiers will be available to meet local residents on the Lac-aux-Sables beach on August 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. They will answer questions from the public, and everyone will have a chance to see the specialized equipment used during the exercise.
