The tranSMART Platform Named as 2015 R&D 100 Award Finalist

Open Source Knowledge Management Platform for Translational Medicine Research Recognized for Innovation

WAKEFIELD, MA--(Marketwired - Aug 24, 2015) -  The tranSMART Foundation, a non-profit organization providing a global, open-source knowledge management platform for scientists to share pre-competitive translational research data, today announced its tranSMART v1.2 platform has been selected as a 2015 R&D 100 Award Finalist by R&D Magazine in the Software/Services category. The R&D 100 Award recognizes the 100 most technologically significant products introduced in the past year.

"We are incredibly honored that the tranSMART platform has been selected to be a part of this impressive group of technology products," said tranSMART Foundation CEO Keith Elliston, PhD. "Our community of scientists and technologists worked hard to develop this version of our open source platform, enabling organizations from around the world to more efficiently and effectively share pre-competitive translational research data with the goal of improving the understanding of well and diseased processes, as well as the discovery of new treatment and diagnostic tools and products."

The tranSMART platform is a set of data models, shared data sets, data transformation utilities, and analytical web applications that accelerates discoveries within complex biological systems by creating a standardized and semantically integrated database of research results linked to reusable and scalable self-service analytics. It integrates multiple components together to achieve full platform capabilities. Most components and data sources are open source or open access. The tranSMART platform relies on its global open source community of users and developers for innovative applications and advances in platform development.

The 2015 R&D 100 finalists will be honored and winners announced at the annual gala banquet at the 2015 R&D 100 Awards & Technology Conference being held Friday, November 13 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nev.
