Unique long-term partnership brings more sustainable materials to the adhesives market and beyond.
Corbion and Perstorp jointly announce a breakthrough innovation for adhesives. Resulting from a partnership agreement signed in 2011, a new lactide (PURALACT® B3) caprolactone co-polymer (Capa(TM)) has been developed that delivers superior benefits in hot melt adhesive applications. The two companies are market leaders in their respective fields of lactides (Corbion) and caprolactones (Perstorp). The new material is expected to be the first in a series of innovations for the adhesive industry resulting from this partnership.
The new product has a renewable content exceeding 80% and is fully compostable - enabling adhesives manufacturers to meet the growing demand for more sustainable products and addressing growing food safety concerns related to food packaging. Equally important, the new material delivers no compromise on performance and allows formulators to remain competitive.
"This new material represents the culmination of two years' joint development work with Perstorp. It will create a strong technology platform for the development of polymers which provide a genuine alternative to traditional technologies for the adhesive industry. It also brings a huge potential for CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers) markets in general" said Marco Bootz, Corbion's Senior Vice President Biochemicals.

The new product is expected to be commercially available in the fourth quarter 2015.
