From Saving Lives to Saving the Environment: The Canadian Red Cross Commits to Green Energy With Bullfrog Power

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 1, 2015) - Today, Bullfrog Power®, Canada's leading green energy provider, and the Canadian Red Cross are announcing a new environmental partnership whereby the Canadian Red Cross is bullfrogpowering its Ottawa head office with 100 per cent green electricity.

"Bringing together the Canadian Red Cross and Bullfrog Power through this partnership is an important reminder of the interconnections between the health of people and the health of the planet," said Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. "Fossil fuel-based electricity generation is a leading source of carbon dioxide and emissions that contribute to poor air quality. By bullfrogpowering its head office, the Canadian Red Cross is taking a positive step in the global movement toward cleaner, renewable forms of energy."

The partnership between the Canadian Red Cross and Bullfrog Power means that Bullfrog's generators put 100 per cent clean, pollution-free electricity onto the grid to match the amount of conventional power the Ottawa head office uses. Across Canada, Bullfrog Power's green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.

"As part of our commitment to making a positive change in Canada and in countries around the world, the Red Cross is doing our part to mitigate the negative effects of climate change," said Ian Fisher, National Director of Real Estate and Facilities Management at the Canadian Red Cross. "Bullfrog Power's green electricity allows the Canadian Red Cross to reduce the environmental impact of our head office while supporting the development of new green energy projects in communities across the country."

With the support of its customers, Bullfrog Power is able to provide critical financing to support the development of new green energy projects from coast-to-coast. In Ontario, Bullfrog Power Projects include partnerships with Oxford Community Energy Co-operative on a new southwestern Ontario wind project and with SolarShare on projects across the province, including Brampton's first community-owned solar project.
