CanJet suspension of operations is devastating news for workers

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 1, 2015) - CanJet's decision to suspend operations is devastating news to the flight attendants who worked for the company, the Canadian Union of Public Employees said today.

"CUPE 4044 members are in shock today," CUPE representative Lesley Swann said. "They found out only this morning that CanJet has ceased flying operations immediately."

The union local's executive received news of the company's suspension through a conference call with CanJet President Stephen Rowe this morning. Thirty-five flight attendants have been laid off due to the closure.

"CUPE has asked CanJet for information about severance pay for our members," Swann said. "At this point, we are examining any legal avenues that we may have."

"Our focus is on assisting our members any way we can during this difficult time," Swann said.
