Join Azul Systems and 451 Research for Insight into Live Apache Cassandra Deployments

Azul's CTO, Gil Tene, and 451 Research Director, Matt Aslett, discuss how enterprises can avoid technical challenges associated with Cassandra implementations

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA--(Marketwired - Sept. 2, 2015) - Azul Systems (Azul), the award-winning leader in Java runtime solutions, is jointly hosting a webinar entitled "Cassandra in Production: Notes from Live Deployments" on Tuesday September 15 at 08.00 PT with 451 Research. The webinar will provide insight into some of the technical challenges enterprises face when deploying Cassandra, and what steps can be taken to contain and control these issues. If you are interested in the webinar, please visit Azul's registration page.

Apache Cassandra is a highly performant, scalable open source distributed database management system written in Java. However, many aspects of Cassandra performance, consistency, and availability depend on the capabilities of the underlying Java runtime platform. Legacy Java Virtual Machines (JVMs) may suffice for many use cases, but enterprises that require highly consistent and reliable low-latency Cassandra performance are often limited by the JVM itself, specifically the detrimental impact of garbage collection. The webinar will address this issue head on and provide industry examples of how common JVM glitches have been resolved. In summary, topics under discussion are:

  • What's driving the rapid adoption of Cassandra?
  • What are emerging high-value Cassandra use cases?
  • What technical challenges can surface in Cassandra implementations?
  • How can Java and the JVM impact Cassandra?
  • What steps can be taken to contain and control these issues?

Gil Tene is CTO and co-founder of Azul Systems. He has been involved with virtual machine technologies for the past 20 years and has been building Java technology-based products since 1995. Gil pioneered Azul's Continuously Concurrent Compacting Collector (C4), Java Virtualization, Elastic Memory, and various managed runtime and systems stack technologies that combine to deliver the industry's most scalable and robust Java platforms.

As Research Director for the data platforms and analytics research channel, Matt Aslett has overall responsibility for the coverage of operational and analytic databases, data integration, data quality, and business intelligence. Matt's own primary area of focus is on relational and non-relational databases - including NoSQL and NewSQL - data warehousing, data caching, and Hadoop. Matthew is also an expert in open source software and regularly contributes to 451 Research's open source-related research.

Azul will be showcasing Zing®, the JVM designed for systems that require consistent low latency and high scalability, at the Cassandra Summit in Santa Clara, September 22-24. Azul experts will be on hand to discuss how Zing enables Cassandra deployments to benefit from greater response times, without Garbage Collection (GC) pauses, node hangs or out of memory errors, regardless of load or object allocation rates.
