New Shapify Booth Location Opens in the Lone Star State Allowing Houstonians to 3D Print Themselves

Artec 3D's 360 Degree Body Scanning Booth Lands in Space City to Create Detailed, Full Color Replica Mini-Me Figurines of Locals

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 3, 2015) - Not everything is bigger in Texas now that Houston locals can miniaturize themselves. Artec 3D, a leading developer and manufacturer of professional 3D software and hardware, and Houston-based startup 3D MAKERY, a 3D scanning experience and printing services provider, are making this possible with a new installation of Artec's Shapify Booth at the Memorial City Mall in Houston, Texas. Once a customer steps inside and strikes a pose, the booth takes just 12 seconds to conduct a full-body scan. A digital model is then rendered in minutes, which can be used to produce a full-color figurine called a "Shapie."

While most of the world is using smartphones and selfie sticks to preserve life's special moments in photographs, Houston shoppers are the newest group to have access to the next-generation technology enabling people to capture these moments in three dimensions. Creating a Shapie not only offers the new-world experience of stepping into a body scanning booth, but results in a priceless memento of a significant life experience like your first day of school, making a sports team, graduating, getting married and even being pregnant. These tokens serve as a more vibrant home accent than the typical photograph, and also make truly personal gifts for friends and family.

"Houston has long been a key player in some of the world's most significant milestones," said Artyom Yukhin, president and CEO of Artec 3D. "This started decades ago with the role the city played in the world's first moon landing and continues today with Houston serving as one of the nation's leading centers of industry. We're excited to bring Artec's professional-grade scanners, the same ones designed for use in the healthcare, aerospace and manufacturing industries, to consumers via the Shapify Booth. It seems only fitting that Houston, with its rich history of scientific advancement, be at the forefront of the 3D technology industry's evolution."

The Shapify Booth contains four wide-view, high-resolution Artec scanners that rotate around a person to capture them from all angles. These high-quality, precision scanners are able to replicate even the smallest details, so they can recreate the logo and jersey of your favorite sport team in high fidelity. Artec's sophisticated software then automatically stitches together the hundreds of generated images to create a full-body 3D model ready for 3D printing. The printed figure will be ready for pick up on a customer's next shopping trip or can be shipped directly to their home. Customers also have the option of purchasing just the 3D file, which can be printed from their home 3D printer.

"As newcomers to the 3D scene, we're thrilled to be working with Artec 3D's advanced tools and knowledgeable support team to help grow our business," said Melissa Wiltraut, corporate project manager at 3D MAKERY. "We had heard of the Shapify Booth's success in other locations and, upon experiencing the technology ourselves, knew it would be a hit in Houston. We are confident customers will embrace this technology. While it's still wonderful to have collections of photos, the Shapify Booth offers a new way to revisit a memory with a 3D portrait."

The Shapify Booth is located in front of the Target corridor at the Memorial City Mall in Houston, Texas. To learn more about this location of the Shapify Booth, visit http://www.3dmakery.com/.
