Senior FDA Policy Advisor Joins King & Spalding

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - September 08, 2015) - King & Spalding announced today that Lisa Dwyer, senior policy advisor in the Office of Policy with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, joins King & Spalding's Washington, D.C. office as partner. Her recruitment continues a long standing tradition of former FDA and other government officials joining the firm.

As senior advisor to the FDA's Office of the Commissioner, Dwyer helped shape the Commissioner's strategy on policy issues involving all FDA-regulated products, including many of the most important FDA program activities, emerging policies, and regulatory issues the Agency is managing and developing. She has played key roles in developing strategies at the regulatory and legislative level for off-label marketing, laboratory developed tests, next generation sequencing (part of President Obama's Precision Medicine Initiative), and incentivizing the development of antibacterial therapies. From November 2011 through January 2013, Dwyer served as Deputy Chief of Staff to FDA's Commissioner, where she handled key policy issues and engaged in crisis management for the Commissioner.

"While the firm has enjoyed a tremendous relationship with the FDA for more than 35 years, we benefit tremendously from talent like Lisa who come to us from inside the Agency with policy and legal experience at the highest levels," said Mark Brown chair of the firm's FDA & Life Sciences practice. "Lisa's experience with emerging issues and insights gained from her work with the FDA Commissioner, Center Directors, other FDA/HHS leadership, Congressional staff and public interest groups will be valuable to both our current clients and to the firm's evolving and growing FDA practice."

Dwyer's professional experience also includes acting as a liaison between Health and Human Services and the FDA on policy issues related to all FDA-regulated products and other issues relevant to the agency. She has also managed policy and legal staff at the working group level to resolve policy matters. Prior to joining the FDA, Dwyer worked in the food and drug group and in the government regulations group in private practice for almost eight years. Dwyer received her B.A. from Wesleyan University, and her J.D. from George Washington University Law School.

"I was drawn to King & Spalding's premier FDA regulatory practice, and am thrilled to be here," said Dwyer. "I look forward to sharing insights from my private and public sector work with clients and colleagues across the firm and helping grow the FDA practice even further."
