Martin Gibbs expected to get a deposit when he brought his used beverage containers in for recycling. But he didn't expect it to be worth $21,055.

Gibbs was the lucky winner of Encorp Pacific's province-wide Return-It To Win-It Contest. By bringing his refundable beverage containers to the Island Return-It Depot in Sidney for recycling, Gibbs drove away with a brand new 2015 Toyota Prius hybrid "C"-a prize worth $21,055.

"We want British Columbians to be the best recyclers in the world," said Scott Fraser, President & CEO of Encorp Pacific. "Our annual contest is a great way to encourage people in British Columbia to recycle even more than they already do."

Vince Spronken, owner of the Island Return-It Depot, agrees. "We see a difference," he said. "Recycling is a good way to reduce waste, and may even win you a new fuel efficient car. So, when you talk to people, you notice a little extra motivation for them to come back to Island Return It Sidney."

This year's winning ballots were randomly chosen from over 188,000 entries submitted across BC. In addition to Gibbs, this year's winners included Jade Eyolfson from Maple Ridge who won the second prize of a Stromer E-Bike (retail value $4,399) and Laurie Meerholz from Prince George who won the third prize of two Pelican kayaks (retail value $1,600).

As Fraser explains, the contest is part of Encorp's continuing effort to bring a friendly face to the business of recycling. "We want to make people feel great about recycling," he said. "That's the key to creating lifelong recycling habits."
