Phoenix Dentist Utilizes Patient Case Study to Reveal Benefits of Advanced Bone Grafting

Dr. Arthur Chal Discusses How Advanced Bone Grafting and Dental Implants Can Restore Form, Function, and Esthetics to the Teeth and Jaw After Tooth Loss

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - Sep 15, 2015) - The presence of natural tooth structure stimulates the body into maintaining the health and strength of the jawbones. This is caused by the piezoelectric effect. Dr. Arthur Chal, a dentist in Phoenix, explains that without the natural tooth structure to generate this reaction, the bone will atrophy. He says patients who have lost their teeth due to injury, periodontal disease, or another concern and have experienced bone loss may wish to consider advanced bone grafting followed by dental implants. These procedures, Dr. Chal indicates, can help ensure the continued function and aesthetic appearance of the teeth and jawbones. He utilizes a case study to reveal how these state-of-the-art dental techniques can dramatically improve the lives of people who have experienced tooth loss.

Dental implants, a combination of a titanium post and dental crown cap, are used to replace one, several, or all missing teeth. In his case study, Dr. Chal explains that the patient lost nearly all her teeth at an early age. She had been wearing dentures for approximately 40 years. Dentures cannot provide the same stimulus as the natural tooth structure, and Dr. Chal says over time individuals who use this tooth-replacement method may experience facial collapse.

With the help of Dr. Chal's team of dental specialists, including Dr. Reed Day, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, the patient underwent advanced bone grafting, using donor bone that was sourced from her hip. Prior to the surgery, Dr. Chal developed a highly precise, customized surgical guide based off CAT scans and dental prototypes. He says he creates 3D pre-operative models based on a thorough analysis of the patient's anatomy. Many dentists, he indicates, simply provide verbal instructions to the surgeon.

During the operation, Dr. Day grafted bone onto specific areas of the jaw based on Dr. Chal's guide to replace what had atrophied. Once the bone graft has healed, Dr. Chal designs the position of each dental implant into the newly grafted foundation. Dr. Day will then surgically place the dental implants based on a precise design. The implants were eventually fitted with a hybrid restoration for the upper jaw and zirconium crown restorations for the lower jaw. The end result, he explains, was a beautiful, natural-looking, and healthy smile. Dr. Chal adds that dental implants cause the piezoelectric effect, so the jawbones should not atrophy again in the future.

Dr. Chal's patient was reportedly elated with the results. She stated, "Now in my sixties, Dr. Chal has given me the comfort and self-confidence I have longed for. The improvement in the quality of my life is tremendous." Dr. Chal emphasizes that patience, skill, and attention to detail are essential to achieving superior results. He says he surrounds himself with the most qualified professionals in the field, and he prioritizes the comfort, safety, and outcome of every individual. For individuals who are not candidates for dental implants due to bone loss, Dr. Chal encourages them to seek out an experienced dentist to determine if advanced bone grafting may be right for them.
