NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Sep 16, 2015) - Dresner Advisory Services today published the first edition Internet of Things and Business Intelligence Market Study, the newest report in the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. Internet of Things (IoT) is defined as the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and connectivity to enable objects to collect and exchange data. The study reviews interest and demand for business intelligence (BI) in an IoT world and examines key related technologies such as location intelligence, end user data preparation, cloud computing, and advanced and predictive analytics.

Organizations are broadly opinionated about the importance of the Internet of Things. While a majority of respondent organizations indicated IoT is at minimum "somewhat important", more than 40 percent consider it "not important" at this time. R&D is presently the strongest likely driver of IoT, suggesting that the topic is still considered more of a frontier rather than a developed business opportunity.

"We're excited to unveil the IoT and BI report that provides a new perspective on current trends and the future direction of the BI industry," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. "The organizations that report success with business intelligence are more likely to attach greater importance to IoT. In addition, IoT advocates claim more current and future BI penetration in their organizations and, compared to the overall sample, are more likely to target customers and suppliers with BI."

"We believe that IoT and business intelligence represents an important market dynamic which we will continue to monitor and research as it fully emerges and takes form," continued Mr. Dresner.

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market. To purchase a copy of the 2015 Internet of Things and Business Intelligence Market Study, visit
