Public Prosecution Service of Canada: Sentences in Terrorism Trial

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 23, 2015) - Chiheb Esseghaier, 33, and Raed Jaser, 37, were sentenced today in Ontario Superior Court to life imprisonment for conspiring to murder persons unknown for the benefit of a terrorist group, contrary to s. 83.2 of the Criminal Code.

Chiheb Esseghaier was also sentenced to life imprisonment for conspiring to interfere with transportation facilities for the benefit of a terrorist group, contrary to s. 83.2, and the equivalent of 18 years for three counts of participating in the activities of a terrorist group, contrary to s. 83.18(1). Raed Jaser was sentenced to the equivalent of 13 years for two counts of participating in the activities of a terrorist group. Both parties have 30 days to decide whether to appeal the sentences.
