Battelle Team Lauded by U.S. Department of Homeland Security for Cybersecurity Contributions

Work Contributed to Advances in Using Big Data in Immigration and Customs Enforcement

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - October 01, 2015) - Battelle employee Gerald Weeks recently received the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Under Secretary for Science and Technology's Award for Outstanding Contractor Support.

Weeks, who works in Battelle's Cyber Innovations business, was part of an integrated team consisting of federal partners and contractors supporting the DHS Science and Technology Predictive Analytics Center (PAC), which is a component of the Border Enforcement Analytics Program (BEAP). BEAP is a collaborative endeavor between the DHS and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The team was specifically recognized for successfully providing new technologies and analytic capabilities to ICE by developing and supporting the transition of the ICE Big Data pilot study into an operational environment.

"The BEAP program is a model for multi-disciplinary and an example of collaborative problem solving," said Dave Doyle, manager of Battelle's National Protection Programs. "The team members' efforts and resounding success improved efficiencies and reduced the time to discover, adapt, leverage, and deploy new technological solutions."

The award recognizes the professional, technical and administrative accomplishments of companies that make substantial contributions to S&T's mission. Awardees were selected based on the importance of their specific accomplishments; efficiency, effectiveness, and economy of operations resulting from their contributions; customer satisfaction; and personal initiative and ingenuity.

Battelle works with corporate and government clients to solve some of today's most perplexing cyber challenges and prepare for the changing cyber landscape of tomorrow. Its innovative solutions challenge conventional problem-solving approaches without sacrificing scientific integrity.
