Array 20 From Cyrex Labs Assisting in Early Investigation of Contact Sports-Related Traumatic Brain Injury

Test Provides Innovative Tool to Healthcare Providers to Detect Breach of Blood-Brain Barrier

PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwired - Oct 7, 2015) -  Cyrex Laboratories, a clinical laboratory specializing in functional immunology and autoimmunity, offers the Array 20, a blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability test. The Array 20 is used to assess BBB permeability in athletes that may be caused by repeated head trauma in sports such as football, basketball, soccer, hockey and boxing.

According to Brainline.org, an estimated 3.8 million concussions occur from sports and recreation related activities each year. Such injuries can lead to a breach in the BBB, which can be discovered with the Array 20 test.

"Leaky brain", a layman's term for BBB permeability, is a condition in which the barrier that separates the blood vessels and capillaries from the brain and nervous system is damaged. If there is a breach in the BBB, antigens that may be in the blood stream are able to access the brain and nervous system and trigger a possible autoimmune reactivity.

"Brain injuries, prevalent in contact sports, falls, accidents or other activities that involve shock to the head, make Array 20 essential for head injury evaluation," said Dr. Aristo Vojdani, pioneer of ELISA clinical testing and chief scientific advisor for Cyrex Laboratories.

The Array 20 can also be used to assess the increased risk of neurodegenerative disorders, including but not limited to Multiple Sclerosis, Lou Gehrig's Disease, Senile Dementia, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Epilepsy and Stroke.

Physicians and other licensed healthcare professionals, as well as patients, interested in learning more about Array 20 or any of the Cyrex Arrays that are part of the Cyrex System, are encouraged to visit www.joincyrex.com for additional information.
