Worldwide Library eBook Reading Club Kicks Off

Simultaneous Access to Two Popular Young Adult eBook Titles Now Available

CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwired - Oct 8, 2015) - More than 30,000 libraries and schools are participating in the world's largest global eBook reading club. Big Library Read (BLR), facilitated by OverDrive, connects millions of readers around the world simultaneously with an eBook. For the first time, two titles will be available to borrow online 24/7 through participating libraries and schools: The Door in the Hedge by Robin McKinley (Open Road) and In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters (Abrams). The free program runs October 7-21 and to get started reading, all that is needed is a library card or student ID.

Since the first Big Library Read in 2013, thousands of libraries, schools and millions of people around the world have embraced the program. In June 2015, BLR saw record-setting participation as 19,000 libraries worldwide joined the event. Kate White's Eyes on You (HarperCollins) was borrowed more than 210,000 times and was among the most popular library eBooks for the month of June.

The two eBooks available for the October program are middle grade and young adult titles. The Door in the Hedge, suitable for ages 10 and up, opens a door into an enchanted world in this collection of original and retold fairy tales. In the Shadow of Blackbirds, suitable for ages 14 and up, is a young adult historical fiction story of war, ghosts, friendship, mystery, love and perseverance. Both eBooks can be read on all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Android™ phones and tablets, Chromebook™ and Kindle® (U.S. only) without worrying about wait lists or holds. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period and there are no late fees.
