MongoDB Recognized as a Leader by Gartner 2015 Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems

NEW YORK, NY and PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 14, 2015) - MongoDB, the database for giant ideas, today announced it has been recognized as a Leader in the Gartner Inc. 2015 Magic Quadrant for Operational Database Management Systems report. A complimentary copy of the full report can be downloaded here.

For three consecutive years, MongoDB has been recognized in the report for its "ability to execute" and "completeness of vision." The Gartner Operational Database Management Systems Magic Quadrant evaluated 31 different vendors on 15 criteria.

"MongoDB is a leader that is competing directly with relational database management systems for a broad range of enterprise-grade, transactional applications," said Dev Ittycheria, president and CEO, MongoDB. "We are attracting the best of the best across all areas of the company, our products have evolved to reach a level of maturity that is far beyond our competitors, and market leaders across many industries are adopting our technology over relational systems. Our ability to execute is nearing that of the 30+ year old entrenched players and far beyond that of the NoSQL database players."

The company continues its upward trajectory with significant customer adoption and key feature enhancements that expand the breadth of use cases for mission critical applications. To help scale MongoDB's rapid growth, the company recently expanded its executive team with the appointments of Michael Gordon as Chief Financial Officer, Meagen Eisenberg as Chief Marketing Officer and Carlos Delatorre as Chief Revenue Officer. MongoDB is on track to grow its workforce by two-thirds by the end of the year.

From Startups to Enterprises, MongoDB Adoption Soars
Worldwide MongoDB adoption is growing rapidly as organizations evaluate modern technologies to keep pace with evolving customer and business demands. In addition to significant growth in existing accounts, recent customer wins include AARP Services, Inc., Fairfax Media, Greyhound Lines, Inc., KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Listrak, McGraw Hill Education, Inc., MomentFeed, Inc., Outlandish, Qualcomm Education, Inc., Survey Sampling International LLC, Smarter HQ, Sovos Compliance, LLC, Tandem Diabetes Care, Nedbank, Ltd., Tapjoy, University of Washington, and Urban Outfitters, Inc.

In addition, the MongoDB database has spiked in downloads, growing to more than 20 thousand downloads per day, and the MongoDB partner ecosystem has grown to more than 1,000 technology and services partners.

Further validating MongoDB's success, DB-Engines recently named MongoDB "Database Management System (DBMS) of the Year" for a second consecutive year. The rankings site continues to show MongoDB as having the highest year on year growth in popularity of all DBMSs. Additionally, Database Trends & Applications magazine named MongoDB "Best NoSQL Database" and has included it on its leading solution providers "Big Data 50" list.

Technology Innovations
MongoDB 3.0 launched in March 2015, combining the rich capabilities of relational databases with the flexibility, scalability, and performance of NoSQL. The introduction of newly acquired storage engine WiredTiger has enabled users of MongoDB 3.0 to build applications with as much as 10x better throughput.

At its annual global user conference, MongoDB World, the company previewed several major enhancements to come in MongoDB 3.2, expected in the fourth quarter of 2015. These new features expand the number of use cases for MongoDB, and open access to data for a broader range of people.
