Retransmission: CUPE Local 960 celebrates Library Week in Oshawa with buttons, postcards

OSHAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 21, 2015) - October 19-26 is Library Week in Ontario, and library workers for the Oshawa Public Library McLaughlin Branch, members of Local 960 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 960), marked the occasion with postcards, buttons and some sweet treats.

"We wanted to take the opportunity to highlight the contribution libraries and library workers make to communities while celebrating Library Week," said Tiffany Balducci, president of CUPE Local 960.

"Libraries are more than just buildings with books in them. They are places that have a profoundly positive impact on the communities where they stand. They are meeting places, community hubs, and spaces that enhance residents' quality of life," she added.

The celebration and information session outside the Bagot Street branch coincided with National Public Library Month and Ontario Public Library Week. The event was organized by CUPE 960 and CUPE Ontario's Library Workers' Committee.

The public events are an opportunity for library workers to connect with the people they serve, as well as others, while highlighting the importance of libraries in the community.
