PIPSC Applauds Federal Government Decision to Reinstate Mandatory Long-Form Census


OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 5, 2015) - The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) applauds the decision announced today by Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains and Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development", to restore the mandatory long-form census.

"Immediate restoration of the mandatory long-form census has been a key recommendation of our union for many years and especially over the past year," said PIPSC President Debi Daviau, whose union holds its Annual General Meeting in Ottawa later this week. "It is a fundamental requirement for a return to evidence-based national policy in Canada. We are delighted the government is fulfilling its pledge to restore the census."

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada represents some 55,000 professionals and scientists across Canada's public sector, including over 1,000 employed in Statistics Canada.
