November features live auctions of Asian, Canadian and Inuit Art, and our first online Fine Wine Auction. December live auctions include International Art, Decorative Arts, Fine Jewellery, and Fine Wine and Spirits. All live auctions are held at Waddington's Toronto gallery.
Inuit and First Nations Art – November 16, 2015
Since its first auction of this iconic Canadian art form in 1976, Waddington's has set records and sold extraordinary works by Canada's leading Inuit artists. This fall Waddington's offers a superb collection from across the Arctic from the classic period to contemporary. We are also pleased to present several important works by First Nations artists.
Highlights of the Inuit Art auction include Joe's Escape c.1970 by Joe Talirunili, Povungnituk, estimate: $20,000—30,000. Most noted for his "Migration" series of sculptures, Joe's Escape represents an important piece of Talirunili's astonishing life story as well as an integral part of his body of work. This unusually expressive sculpture is a snapshot in time, much like his famous "Migration" series. The lot includes Talirunili's handwritten and illustrated recollection of the event. This is the 12th "Joe Boat" sold by Waddington's including a record auction price of $290,000 in 2012.
Also included is the 1959 stencil by Cape Dorset artist Osuitok Ipeelee, Eskimo Legend: Owl, Fox and Hare. This important print graces the cover of Norman
Vorano's book, Inuit Prints: Japanese Inspiration which explores early Inuit printmaking. Primarily known as a sculptor, this rare print by Osuitok has not
appeared at auction as a single lot in several years. Estimate: $8,000—12,000. We are also pleased to present a number of important works by First Nations
artists including a bronze work, Thunderbird, by Haida artist Robert Charles Davidson. Considered a leading figure in the renaissance of Haida art and
culture, Davidson is the great-grandson of renowned Haida artist Charles Edenshaw and apprentice of Bill Reid. Davidson is highly regarded for his work
in multiple media including his later pieces in aluminum and bronze. Estimate: $9,000—12,000.

Canadian Fine Art Auction – November 23, 2015
Waddington's has been a major force in the Canadian art market for over five decades. Waddington's offers important Canadian works, sets record prices and has driven the high end of the Canadian art auction market longer than any other auction house in Canada.
The overwhelming majority of works in Waddington's fall auction of Important Canadian Art are sourced from private collections throughout North America and abroad, with a record number being repatriated from private collections from the 135 works of art to be sold on November 23rd spans a century and a half of great Canadian art making. Highlights of the auction include one of the earliest known Frederick Arthur Verner Indian encampments, Ojibway Camp at
Northwest Angle, Lake of the Woods (based on a sketch in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada from 1873). Early topographical paintings by
Washington Friend (1820-1886), John Herbert Caddy (1801-1883), and William Armstrong (1982-1914) are offered to collectors of historical paintings, alongside Sans Titre, the largest mid-1950s Jean-Paul Riopelle watercolour and ink ever entrusted to Waddington's for sale, and the 2007 oil, acrylic and spray paint on canvas landscape, Swimming in the Lake, by contemporary painter Kim Dorland. Our inclusion of rare and insightful portraits by Florence Carlyle, Laura Muntz Lyall, Randolph Hewton, Paul Peel and others, coincides with a renewed focus on great Canadian portraiture by the collecting and curatorial community. Finally reappearing on the market are superb still lifes painted over a half century ago by Jean-Phillippe Dallaire, Lionel Lemoine FitzGerald, William Goodridge Roberts and others, most of which have been in single collections and passed down by descent since they were first acquired, in many cases directly from the artist. From Cornelius Krieghoff (1815-1872) to Harold Klunder (born 1943) the auction is replete with examples of Canadian Art at its best.

Asian Fine Art – November 30, 2015
This carefully curated auction features 330 lots from Vancouver, Montreal, Quebec City, New York, Taipei, and Toronto, covering Japanese, Korean,
Himalayan, Southeast Asian, and Chinese works of art.
Included is our first Asian Art Reference Books section, which features selected lots from the comprehensive library of Yukman Lai (1949-2013). Also included are two important porcelain blue and white bottle vases from the Guangxu period. Featured in the Japanese works section is a massive and fine painting of Mori Tetsuzan (1775-1841), which depicts the rare tiger theme of this 18th Century master (estimate: $16,000—22,000).
A highlight of the auction is a turquoise-ground famille-rose shaped box and cover, with a Qianlong incised and gilt six-character seal mark and of the Period (1736 –1795) with distinguished provenance including C. T. Loo and Maison des Bambous, Paris. The only comparable piece, which was possibly the other half of a pair, is now in the GuanFu Museum Beijing. Estimate: $60,000—80,000.
