New Government Recognizes the Importance of Protecting the Travelling Public

OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - November 16, 2015) - In a letter to Minister Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has established the priorities that Transport Canada must implement. Of significance is the review of changes to the Fisheries Act and Navigable Waters Protection Act.

"This government recognizes the importance of protecting water and the investment in infrastructure," said Christine Collins, Union of Canadian Transportation Employees (UCTE) National President.

Other priorities include the proposal of measures to reinforce railway safety, the improvement of marine safety and a full review of the Canadian grain transportation system.

"We look forward to working with Minister Garneau and Transport Canada in the implementation of these priorities and discussing other important issues for our members and the travelling public at large."

The Union of Canadian Transportation Employees, a component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, represents the majority of unionized workers at Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board.
