From Hungry…to Thankful: American Family Housing to Serve 1,000 Thanksgiving Meals to Area Homeless

OC Nonprofit Enters Its 22nd Year of Helping Those Less Fortunate on Thanksgiving

WESTMINSTER, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 23, 2015) -  This Thanksgiving, American Family Housing will continue its popular tradition of feeding the homeless and less fortunate. The organization has stepped up its annual goal this year, aiming to serve 1,000 hot dinners to families and individuals in need.

"We rely on volunteers every year to help make this event possible," says CEO Donna Gallup. "This year, we'll need more help than ever to meet our goal of feeding 1,000 people. We know we can get there." The menu will once again feature traditional Thanksgiving fare, including turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, cranberry sauce, green beans, salad and dessert.

For American Family Housing, helping those less fortunate isn't just a Thanksgiving effort; it's a year-round commitment. In fact, it's just one of the reasons the organization was recently named a "Top-Rated Nonprofit" by GreatNonProfits, a national organization who, according to Bill Gates, "focuses on helping people make great giving decisions through socially sourced feedback and reviews."

Lifelong human services advocate Donna Gallup joined American Family Housing in late 2014 as president and CEO, strengthening the organization's resources almost immediately upon her appointment. Charting a new course for American Family Housing, Gallup is working hard to provide assistance for vulnerable populations throughout Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties. Her relentless spirit and belief that homelessness can -- and will -- be eradicated offers renewed hope, vision and a clear path toward this sought-after goal.

"Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year to show the community those in need where our hearts are," says Gallup. "We want them to know that we're here for them for the long-haul too. Everyone needs to be part of a caring community."

Individuals can help contribute to this event in multiple ways -- by making a monetary donation or donating food. Visit www.afhusa.org for more information or contact donate@afhusa.org or (714) 897-3221. The event is FREE and open to the public on Thanksgiving Day from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., held at the Westminster Community Center at 8200 Westminster Blvd. Westminster, CA 92683.
