"I am humbled to receive this honor from an organization whose mission I admire and which works so tirelessly for the community," said Kathwari.

The foundation's Board of Trustees bestowed the honor at the Hebrew Home's 98th annual black-tie gala, held November 15 in the Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. With 600 people in attendance, it was The Hebrew Home’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The event raised $2.1 million.

“Farooq Kathwari was selected as The Hebrew Home at Riverdale’s honoree for his humanitarian efforts around the globe and because he shares The Hebrew Home at Riverdale’s vision of respect and care for older adults,” said Hebrew Home President and CEO Daniel Reingold.

Kathwari is active in several nonprofit organizations, including the National Retail Federation, Refugees International, the International Rescue Committee, and the Council on Foreign Relations, among others.
