TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - December 09, 2015) - April Currey, Manager of Customer Insights & Acquisitions for PowerStream's Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) department, was named the 2015 'Emerging Leader' by Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC) Wednesday, in recognition of her leadership in transforming long-standing utility marketing practices and driving innovation.

In less than two years as an employee at the utility, Currey has successfully championed the adoption of several new marketing practices for the company, including transitioning from print media to digital advertising, adopting a vertical marketing strategy tailored to customers' needs and putting an increased focus on market research and customer insights.

The announcement was made at the EHRC's annual Awards for Excellence luncheon, an event which celebrates extraordinary achievements and gives national recognition to individuals who are making a positive and tangible impact on the workforce. This year's event was held at the St. Andrew Club and Conference Centre.

  • "April is passionate about customer focus, getting results and driving sector innovation," explained Raegan Bond, PowerStream Vice President of Conservation & Demand Management. • Currey has more than 15 years of marketing and business development experience, including nearly a decade in the energy sector. After joining PowerStream in 2013 as CDM Market Research & Business Analyst, she soon became a supervisor in the department before being promoted in 2014 to Manager, Customer Insights & Acquisitions, in which she is accountable for CDM marketing and sales activities as well as managing a team of nine individuals.
  • Brian Bentz, President and CEO of PowerStream, was previously recognized by EHRC as the 2014 Leader of the Year.
  • The EHRC Awards of Excellence is a national event that brings business leaders and human resource professionals together. Attended by employers, labour, education, and government representatives working for and with the sector, the aim of this event is to connect, convene and inspire the industry.
