Liberty Tax, Inc. announced today that James J. Wheaton will assume the newly created position of Chief Compliance Officer.
Mr. Wheaton, who currently serves as General Counsel of both Liberty Tax Service and of its principal subsidiary, JTH Tax, Inc., d/b/a Liberty Tax Service, will continue as General Counsel of Liberty Tax, Inc. and Vice President of Legal and Governmental Affairs. In a separate press release, the Company will announce the appointment of Vanessa Mercurio Szajnoga as the new General Counsel of JTH Tax, Inc.
Mr. Wheaton joined the Company in 2011, after serving as external corporate counsel since 1998. This fall he completed a four-year term as a member of the Council of the Business Section of the American Bar Association, and last month, he was honored by a committee of that Section as the 2015 recipient of the Martin I. Lubaroff award for his efforts in the area of unincorporated entities law. He is also a former member of the Chesapeake, Virginia School Board and past chair of the Virginia Public School Authority.
Liberty Tax CEO and Founder John T. Hewitt said that the changes would allow Mr. Wheaton to expand his focus on the Company's governmental relationships.
