Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation will supply three additional BOMBARDIER FLEXITY trams to the city of Plauen, Germany. The order, the exercise of an option included in a frame contract signed in 2012 with the Plauen Transport Authority (PSB), is valued at approximately 9 million euro ($10 million US).

Barbara Zeuner, Managing Director of the Plauen Transport Authority said, "We are delighted to be able to further modernize our tram fleet with these three optional vehicles. The BOMBARDIER FLEXITY trams have been well received, above all by our mobility-impaired passengers. The trams operate reliably without any downtimes."

Carsten Bopp, Head of Light Rail Vehicles, Bombardier Transportation, said, "We are very proud of this project. Our proven FLEXITY Classic trams have been customized to meet the city's topographical and infrastructural requirements and have been enriching the Plauen cityscape since 2013."

The 21 m long, 2.3 m wide FLEXITY Classic vehicles accommodate 119 passengers and are equipped with the reliable BOMBARDIER MITRAC propulsion system. Conventional wheel-set bogies ensure a smooth ride and reduce wear and tear of wheels and tracks.

The Plauen Transport Authority (PSB) moves about 8 million passengers per year and ensures mobility for all citizens. A city with a long tram tradition, Plauen's first tram line went into operation as early as 1894.

More than 600 FLEXITY Classic trams are successfully in use in the German cities of Essen, Dresden, Frankfurt, Halle and Leipzig, but also in Adelaide (Australia), Krakow (Poland) and Stockholm (Sweden). To date about 5,000 Bombardier trams and LRVs are in revenue service or on order in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America.
