Delphix Names the Winner of Its 2015 Annual Technology Scholarship for Women

Kelsey D'Souza of Columbia University Awarded Educational Grant Honoring Women Coders; Jerica Huang of Cornell University Earns Honorable Mention

MENLO PARK, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 16, 2015) - Delphix, the market leader in Data as a Service, today announced that Kelsey D'Souza, a sophomore at Columbia University, was awarded the 2015 Delphix Technology Scholarship for Women. D'Souza was selected following a rigorous review process by Delphix engineers of applications received from women across the United States and India. As the winner of the third-annual scholarship, D'Souza will be given a $5,000 grant to be applied toward her completion of a technical degree.

The Delphix Technology Scholarship for women is an annual scholarship program that supports women who are pursuing a technical degree in areas such as computer science, mathematics or information technology. Members of the Delphix engineering team determine the winner by voting for the application that best represents Delphix values.

"I am passionate about workplace diversity because it is critical to building a strong corporate culture and a world-class engineering organization," said Adam Leventhal, Chief Technology Officer, Delphix. "We were impressed with Kelsey D'Souza's EboHub application because it demonstrates an ideal combination of creative thinking, technical acumen and end-to-end problem solving for an ongoing humanitarian issue. We are delighted to help her start down a successful career path and contribute to professional excellence and equality."

D'Souza's winning entry is a Web application named EboHub that uses an online portal and text messaging to connect Ebola patients with qualified caregivers. The application can track many patient data points including their locations, whether they received professional diagnosis or were only exposed to the virus, and locations of aid workers and nurses who can help. D'Souza also consulted a Ph.D. student studying biology and a current Ebola aid worker to create a well rounded solution for an ongoing public health problem.

According to the National Center for Women & Information Technology, 18 percent of computer and information sciences bachelor's degree recipients were women in 2013, with women at major research universities earning 14 percent of those degrees. Twenty-eight percent of the college graduates Delphix hired in 2015 were women from major research institutions, exceeding the national average.

Honorable Mention

Delphix also awarded Jerica Huang, a sophomore at Cornell University, with Honorable Mention for her app, named ChemBook. ChemBook is a social networking website that Huang developed during high school for her chemistry class. ChemBook enabled the class's students and teacher to ask questions, get answers and collaborate with one another.
