Fish & Richardson Announces Two Principals Named "Litigation Trailblazers" for 2015 by The National Law Journal

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwired - Dec 17, 2015) - Fish & Richardson today announced that Jonathan E. Singer and Ann Cathcart Chaplin have been named "Litigation Trailblazers" by The National Law Journal (NLJ). According to the NLJ, these trailblazers have "shown a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their mission, having achieved remarkable successes along the way."

Singer, who heads Fish's Life Sciences Practice, was named a Litigation Trailblazer for his exceptional prowess in handling high stakes, industry-defining life sciences cases. Singer is well-known for representing branded pharmaceutical companies in large, complex Hatch-Waxman ANDA litigation, where billions of dollars are routinely at stake. Life sciences companies also turn to him for cases involving novel legal questions that make new law. One of Singer's many high profile cases was representing client Mayo Clinic in its groundbreaking, eight-year patent litigation with Prometheus Laboratories that culminated with a unanimous win at the U.S. Supreme Court. The Mayo case is considered one of the most significant patent cases of the last 50 years.

Over the past 10 years, Singer has also won multiple cases for long-time client Allergan Inc. Singer helps Allergan to protect its portfolio of patented drugs against generic manufacturers. Many of these cases involve precedential decisions that have shaped how Hatch-Waxman cases are litigated.

Singer is currently representing GlaxoSmithKline against Teva Pharmaceuticals in a closely watched case over generic "skinny labels" for their COREG drug, which raises the issues of permissible marketing by generics of products where their labels "carve-out" patent indications, but are still used for those indications in the marketplace.

Ann Cathcart Chaplin, who recently left Fish to become Deputy General Counsel for Litigation for General Motors Co., served as the Practice Group Leader (PGL) of Fish's Litigation Group for the past four years. She helped to launch Fish's eFISHency™ Legal Services Suite, an ongoing strategic initiative to lower costs to meet client needs, while still delivering top-quality work and excellent service.

Fish & Richardson is a global patent, intellectual property (IP) litigation, and commercial litigation law firm with more than 400 attorneys and technology specialists across the U.S. and Europe. Fish has been named the #1 patent litigation firm in the U.S. for 12 consecutive years. Fish has been winning cases worth billions in controversy -- often by making new law -- for the most innovative clients and influential industry leaders since 1878. For more information, visit www.fr.com.
