Panel of Bioenergy Experts Examine Biofuels as Solution to Transportation GHG Emissions

OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - January 22, 2016) - The Canadian Renewable Fuels Association (CRFA) was proud to host three Canadian bioenergy experts who participated in a special panel series in Ottawa and Toronto entitled Creating Real Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reductions for Transportation with Biofuels.

The panel was moderated by Don O'Connor, GHG modelling expert and President of (S&T)2 Consultants Inc., and comprised of Dr. David Bressler, Professor, University of Alberta, Dr. Jack Saddler, Professor, University of British Columbia, and Dr. Warren Mabee, Associate Professor, Queen's University.

Discussion focused on Canada's increasing GHG emissions and how biofuels can assist government, both federally and provincially, meet climate change commitments.

"The transportation sector now accounts for more than a third of Canada's emissions on a lifecycle basis," said Don O'Connor. "Biofuels are reducing transportation GHG emissions today, and the panel of bioenergy experts provided invaluable insight on biofuel policy, emission reductions, innovative cleantech development and biofuels' place in the transportation fuel mix of today and tomorrow."

The panel sessions were the first of a planned series to be hosted by the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association. "This is an important initiative," said Andrea Kent, President of CRFA. "Biofuels policy is an integral part of Canada's economic and environmental prosperity. We are happy to provide an open forum for experts, industry and policy makers to meet and discuss ideas that support governments looking for solutions to fight climate change."
