Lincoln Military Housing Opening Remote WIC Clinics at Properties

ANNAPOLIS, MD--(Marketwired - Jan 26, 2016) -  Lincoln Military Housing has worked with Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), program of the Department of Public Health, on opening remote clinics at Lincoln's Whitehurst Farms and Willoughby Bay communities.

Starting 1/7 active duty military members and their dependents can visit the Whitehurst Farms Community Center, 1690 Normandy Landing, Norfolk, every other Thursday and the Willoughby Bay Community Center, 8180 O'Conner Crescent, Norfolk, every other Monday starting 1/11.

Program details:

  • WIC stands for Women, Infants, and Children. It is for expecting mothers and for mothers who have infants. They provide resources for mother and baby.
  • Income eligibility is determined based on ALL household income. It does not include BAH as income.
  • What the applicant should bring with them:
    • Proof of Identification for parent and children being seen. (Examples of identification are: Driver's license, military ID, dependent ID, birth certificate (children), social security card, immunization record, etc. are all acceptable forms.)
    • Proof of residency in Virginia.
    • Proof of all income inside the home (will be helpful to bring full LES)
      Note: Some items can be combined. For example, If you bring a driver's license or state id and it has your current address, that will cover both proof of identification and proof of residency and you will not need to bring an additional document.
  • WIC representatives will be available to offer information and establish benefits to those who quality.
  • When registering for the first time it can take 45 minutes. There are three steps in the process:
    • Step 1 Financial and Residential eligibility, Step 2 Anthropometric data collection (Height, Weight, and HgB), Step 3 Nutrition Counseling. All three steps have to be completed, in order to receive benefits.
  • The day you are deemed eligible you will also receive your benefits. Benefits are loaded onto a WIC EBT card and under normal circumstances are provided for 3 months at a time. During the end of the 3rd month, you will have to come back to participate in either a nutrition education class or a certification appointment to receive an additional 3 months' worth of benefits.
  • Return appointments can either be conducted in a WIC office or during clinics at Lincoln Military Housing facilities. You may choose where you go.
