VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - January 26, 2016) - Discover Energy Corp. is excited to announce the appointment of Dean Smurthwaite as Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel. Dean has skills and experience that are critical to supporting Discover Energy's continued growth and success. As CFO/GC, he will have the global responsibility over financial governance and reporting and will provide guidance and support for all legal and contractual issues for Discover Energy Corp. and its divisions.

Dean is a JD/CPA who began his career as an auditor and worked as an accountant doing financial reporting and developing forecast models and budgets. He is also an attorney with an extensive background in structured finance, mergers, due diligence, and securities registration and compliance. 

Mr. Smurthwaite also has an entrepreneurial spirit. He founded P3XBRL, Inc., an accounting software and services business that specializes in extensible Business Reporting Language ("XBRL") which he grew to 24 employees, and he continues to sit on the Board of P3XBRL, Inc. He has extensive experience in the renewable energy sector preparing financial models, legal documents and arranging financing for various projects helping them to achieve desired tax treatments and financial outcomes. 

Dean graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and received his Masters of Accountancy from the University of Virginia. Dean graduated Cum Laude with his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He holds both, a law license and his CPA credentials.
