Statement by Minister Joly on Losar, the Tibetan New Year

GATINEAU, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - Feb. 9, 2016) - This week, Canadians of Tibetan, Bhutanese and Nepalese descent will gather together with prayers, ceremonies, dancing and feasts to welcome Losar, the New Year.

The New Year provides an opportunity for us all to reflect on the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader and an honorary Canadian citizen. We can all learn a great deal from these teachings of compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, inclusion and self-discipline.

Our country is strengthened by our diversity-including the contributions of Canadians of Tibetan, Bhutanese and Nepalese heritage. I wish everyone celebrating Losar an abundance of peace and happiness in the year to come.

Losar Tashi delek!
