Fogarty Institute Opens Application Process for Lefteroff Fund Summer Internship Program

Ten Undergraduate and Graduate Students Will Be Selected to Participate in Sought-After Medtech Educational Program; Deadline for Submission Is March 20

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired - Feb 24, 2016) - The Fogarty Institute for Innovation, a nonprofit that provides intellectual, physical and financial resources to medtech startups, today announced it has opened its application process for the Lefteroff Fund summer internship program. Applications are due March 13 and can be submitted online.

Each year, the Institute hosts 10 graduate and undergraduate students who show the interest and desire to advance the healthcare field. The selected interns are offered the opportunity to shadow and work on projects with the Institute's companies-in-residence and medical technology partners. Through the mentorship program the interns learn from the best in the industry and receive guidance from industry experts on potential career paths and choices. Past mentors have included government leaders, venture capital partners and industry luminaries from companies such as Johnson & Johnson Innovation and Edwards Lifesciences.

"This is the fourth year of our Lefteroff intern program, and we could not be more pleased with the success of this program," said Ann Fyfe, President and CEO of the Fogarty Institute. "The interns benefit enormously from hands-on practical training as well as 'out of the box' thinking from our mentors, creating an education that lasts a lifetime. Past interns have created apps for our startups and abstracts that have been presented to the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress, among others. That type of experience is invaluable."

The Lefteroff internship program was established in honor of Tracy Lefteroff, a remarkable leader and strong proponent for raising the next generation of medtech innovators.
