The Government of Canada Supports Canadian Businesses Through the Build in Canada Innovation Program

GRI Simulations Inc. and Compusult Limited receive Build in Canada Innovation Program contracts

ST JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR--(Marketwired - Feb. 29, 2016) - Public Services and Procurement Canada

The Honourable Judy M. Foote, Minister of Public Services and Procurement Canada, today announced that the Government of Canada awarded contracts to two Newfoundland and Labrador-based businesses, through the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP). The announcement was made at the Newfoundland and Labrador 2015 Employer of Distinction Awards.

GRI Simulations Inc. received a contract in the amount of $296,125 for its small Remotely Operated Vehicle training simulator. The product is a remote operated simulation tool for small vehicles.

Compusult Limited received a contract in the amount of $810,896 for an application for Android/iOS devices to discover, access, collect, and manage information about earth's surface. It provides soldiers in action the ability to collect and upload data to their command centres, as well as to share it with other soldiers in the field for military and security operations.

Last summer, the department made it easier for innovative Canadian companies to apply for and participate in the program. Companies can now submit their proposals any time during the year, as soon as their innovation is ready to be tested. In addition, Canadian innovators who have already received a BCIP contract can now also make follow-on sales of their innovations to federal organizations who are interested in using them in different settings without having to go through a separate procurement process.

Canadian innovators can submit their proposals on Buyandsell.gc.ca/tenders.

The BCIP helps Canadian businesses get their cutting-edge goods and services from the lab to the marketplace. Successful sales translate into jobs, and jobs lead to prosperity for hard-working Canadians and their families. This program is just one of the many ways the Government of Canada supports small and medium businesses across Canada.

Quick Facts

  • Products can be eligible for contracts up to $500,000 under the program's standard component, and up to $1 million under the military component.
  • As of February 29, 2016, 175 contracts have been awarded under the BCIP, bringing Canadian companies one step closer to selling to domestic and international markets.

Quotes

"These contracts have been awarded to businesses that will fuel our economy here in Newfoundland. This program helps support innovations developed by companies right here in our wonderful province and throughout the country. These innovations are contributing to real existing needs of federal departments."
